A Detailed Characterization of HR 8799's Debris Disk with ALMA in Band 7

چکیده

Abstract The exoplanetary system of HR 8799 is one the rare systems in which multiple planets have been directly imaged. Its architecture strikingly similar to that solar system, with four imaged giant surrounding a warm dust belt analogous Asteroid Belt, and themselves being surrounded by cold analog Kuiper Belt. Previous observations this ALMA Band 6 (1.3 mm) revealed its inner edge, but analyses data differ on precise location. It was therefore unclear whether or not outermost planet b dynamically sculpting it. We present here new debris disk 7 (340 GHz, 880 ? m). These are most detailed obtained so far, resolution 1? (40 au) sensitivity 9.8 Jy beam ?1 , allowed us recover structure high confidence. In order constrain morphology, we fit emission using radiative transfer models combined Markov Chain Monte Carlo procedure. find cannot be adequately represented single power law sharp edges. exhibits smoothly rising edge falling outer peak between, as expected from contains high-eccentricity component, hence confirming previous findings. Whether excited population shape stem presence an additional remains, however, open question.

The Debris Disk around Hr 8799

We have obtained a full suite of Spitzer observations to characterize the debris disk around HR 8799 and to explore how its properties are related to the recently discovered set of three massive planets orbiting the star. We distinguish three components to the debris system: (1) warm dust (T ∼ 150 K) orbiting within the innermost planet; (2) a broad zone of cold dust (T ∼ 45 K) with a sharp inn...

The impact of ALMA on debris disk research

Debris disks are optically thin dust disks around stars produced by ongoing collisions of planetesimals left over from the planet formation process. They help us to improve our understanding of the formation and evolution of planetary systems. Our Herschel open time key program DUNES (DUst around NEarby Stars) aims at detecting debris disks with a fractional luminosity similar to the Edgeworth-...

Mid-infrared Imaging of a Circumstellar Disk around Hr 4796: Mapping the Debris of Planetary Formation

We report the discovery of a circumstellar disk around the young A0 star HR 4796 in thermal infrared imaging carried out at the W. M. Keck Observatory. By fitting a model of the emission from a flat dusty disk to an image at mm, we derive a disk inclination, from face-on, with the long axis of emission at P.A. C C16 l 5 20.8 i 5 72 C 29 . The intensity of emission does not decrease with radius,...

Mass and Temperature of the Twa 7 Debris Disk

We present photometric detections of dust emission at 850 and 450 μm around the pre-main sequence M1 dwarf TWA 7 using the SCUBA camera on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. These data confirm the presence of a cold dust disk around TWA 7, a member of the TW Hydrae Association. Based on the 850 μm flux, we estimate the mass of the disk to be 18 Mlunar (0.2 M⊕) assuming a mass opacity of 1.7 cm ...

A Short Guide to Debris Disk Spectroscopy

Multi-wavelength spectroscopy can be used to constrain the dust and gas properties in debris disks. Circumstellar dust absorbs and scatters incident stellar light. The scattered light is sometimes resolved spatially at visual and near-infrared wavelengths using high contrast imaging techniques that suppress light from the central star. The thermal emission is inferred from infrared through subm...
